Where do sessions happen?
I usually come to your house, this keeps your pup calm and relaxed wile we build an action plan together. It’s also the best way to practically teach new behaviours without the distraction of the outside world.
We can also meet at a park or a mutual location if you’d prefer.
Virtual sessions are available too, whether you’re further away, want to save on travel costs, or just prefer to meet online.
What happens in the first session?
I start by understanding the challenges you’re facing, rather than a quick fix, I dig into the root cause.
I’ll explain a bit of theory behind how dogs think and learn, then we get hands on together so you leave with a clear starting plan and the confidence to begin working on it.
I always use methods you’re comfortable with, and i’m happy to adapt my approach as we go, and to guide you through the sessions that follow.
How much foes it cost?
Initial session: 2 hours, $300
Future in person sessions: 1 hour, $200 (you can choose 1 or 2 hours after your initial session)
Virtual sessions: $100 per hour
Travel fees apply for drives over 30 mins from Ivanhoe. I’ll confirm the exact amount once I have your address.
If cost, location, or timing is a barrier, get in touch, i’m always happy to find a way to make this work for you and your dog.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what you’re working on. Simpler, skill based things like loose lead walking or jumping on guests often show real progress within a session or two. More complex behavioural work, like reactivity or resource guarding, usually takes longer, most clients see solid results over 4-5 sessions. I’ll always give you an honest sense of what to expect for your dog once we’ve had our first session together, so you’re never guessing.
What makes you different?
I check in with you before doing anything, your comfort (and your dogs) matters to me just as much as the progress you both make. I want you to feel completely comfortable telling me if something doesn’t sit right, if you’re unsure or if you need more explanation. There’s no such thing as a silly question, i’d genuinely rather you ask than stay quiet and struggle.
Do you specialise in Cocker Spaniels?
Cockers are my jam. I’ve got one myself and i’ve worked with hundreds over the years, I genuinely love the breed. Gundogs more broadly are a big soft spot for me too, but honestly, all dogs are welcome, wherever you and your dog are at. The common issues I see most, pulling on the lead, jumping, barking, resource guarding, are the things I deal with every week, do whatever you’re working through, you’re in the right place.
